7 Sleeping Positions and what they say about you
We all know how important it is to get a good night’s sleep but for behavioral theorists, it isn’t how long we sleep for, but our actual sleep positions that are interesting. Our sleep positions can be interpreted to say so much about us, and I was surprised that there are actually 7 sleep positions. This was something I’d never thought about until I recently noticed I had started sleeping on my #stomach when I had always been all over the place and very fidgety previously. Here are what the experts have to say about our sleeping positions.
1. FETAL POSITION
Nearly 41 percent of people sleep in this position, making it the most common of all the sleep positions. It is called the fetal position because as you are lying on your side with your legs curled up towards your chest, you resemble a fetus in its mother’s womb.
Sleeping in this posture means unconsciously seeking for protection from the outside when one is worried and looking for safety. In this pose a person is knocked to the side, legs bent at the knees and pressed against stomach, sometimes with a pillow or blanket between the legs. This posture reminds us of prenatal development when we were protected.
For an adult this sleeping position is often taken in a difficult situation. One who constantly sleeping in this position can be a vicious unsociable person who has a challenge to find him/herself in life, and who are constantly in need of protection.
2. LOG POSITION
This position is sleeping on the side with arms extended along the body. People sleeping in this position are good-natured and open. They love to communicate and agree with the other people. If arms are outstretched, as if it is begging, it means a trusting person.
3. HERON POSITION
In this case, one leg is straight, the other one is bent and is touching the first leg. The arms are under the head. Such people are moody, unpredictable and a bit capricious. In terms of sexuality, when the upper leg is bent it means less sexual person and and if lower then more sexual.
4. SOLDIER POSITION
One sleeps on the back, legs and arms are outstretched, as if the soldier in the watch position. This position indicates the closed persons. They are silent, and prefer actions over the words. Such people are straightforward and cruel. They are demanding to themselves and to others.
5. STARFISH POSITION
“I’m a star in the bed! Hands and feet are spread”. This phrase accurately describes this position. First people are really sleeping with arms and legs outstretched . At the same time such position takes up a lot of space, but from the point of view of psychology, such people tend to be the center of everything.
6. FREE FALL POSITION
People who sleep on the stomach, try not to let anyone into their inner world. They like peace of mind and tend not to like any change. From the one hand, they are not completely closed like “Fetal position” people, but at the same time they protect their space and do not want to let anyone into it. However they are not as open as as those who sleep on their backs. In most cases the hands are elongated towards the top, legs are straight but sometimes slightly bent. They are often boring people, but persistent in achieving their goals.
7. NON-SPECIFIC POSITION
Even with six different sleeping positions, there are people who cannot commit to just one of them. These non-specific sleepers may sleep on their side one night and on their backs the next. They may even adopt various sleeping positions throughout a single night. This can be an indication that the person is unsettled, distracted, confused or even stressed. You can even take it one step further by implying that a non-specific position sleeper may even have a fear of commitment.
